Not sure what type of bird I saw, but it was bigger than a parakeet but smaller than a parrot. It had a head shaped like a parakeet with a smallish lighter beak. From what I can remember… It had a rainbow colored chest mixed with some white feathers. The chest feathers were shaped like fish scales and it had aquamarine colored head/wings. I was driving past it on the road and it caught eye because it was so colorful. But because I was driving I could be getting the colors off a bit. But the size was definitely smaller than a parrot and bigger than a parakeet.

It was perched on a cattle/barbed wire fence along the access road to Diablo Canyon Power Plant, about 100′ from the ocean. This area of road is about 10miles NW of Avila Beach along the coast line, which is not accessible to the public. It’s a very remote area (no neighborhoods or houses), but it seemed to be doing ok.

I will keep a look out in the coming days and see if I can find it to get a photo. It definitely didn’t look like a wild bird… it looked like it had been someone’s pet!
