Hi Donna,

Baboo had flown out the door after me last Thursday morning as I went out to put out some recyclables. She landed on my shoulder and then took off! I watched her take to the air and circle, higher than I could have imagined, and then she took off out of sight. What a helpless feeling!  My husband and I searched the area for hours. We live in a development in a very rural area in the Sonoran Desert. I couldn’t imagine that we would see her again.
We had only just moved here from Pennsylvania about two months ago, so we really don’t know anyone, but there are some facebook groups for the community.  My husband and I posted notices on facebook and with several bird finding groups. We also put up signs all over the development. The response from the community was overwhelming. One incredible guy, who we still haven’t met in person, went out with his night vision goggles and spotlights to search for her!
It was an awful feeling when the sun set. We’d had rain and the temperature was dropping rapidly.  The thought of little Baboo being out there all alone, cold, hungry and scared was devastating. I went to work Friday morning, but kept checking my phone for any word.  I was on my way home at about 2:00 when a message came in that a neighbor had spotted Baboo, but didn’t know how to get her.  My husband and I grabbed her travel case and a banana and raced over to the woman’s house as soon as I got home from work.  What a relief to know that Baboo was alive!  When we got there, the neighbor told us that her daughter had heard an unfamiliar bird call and spotted her at the top of a nearby tree. They tried to coax her down but she got scared and took off again in the direction of the desert!
Bill and I headed off to the end of the development.  When we got out of the car, Baboo saw us and started to screech!  She was at the top of a tree at the last house before the end of the development.  When we reached her, she started to make her familiar happy “hiccup” sound – best sound ever!  We were able to coax her to come down from the tree.  What an incredible moment!  She was hungry, tired and sore, but she was okay.  We took her to the vet to get her check out and she was fine.  We knew everything was alright when she gave herself a bath yesterday. DEC 7-14
She seems very content to be home now!  Always ask for help – people are angels without wings!  Don’t ever give up hope!
