STILL MISSING Sep 16-14 My name is Jack and I need you to please help me. I’m scared and I’ve been lost for so long that I’m getting scared I’ll never see my Mommy again. I’ve tried, but I just haven’t been able to find my way back to my Mommy all by myself. I hope you can help me find my Mommy so I can get back home. I was sitting on my Mommy’s shoulder on June 13th and I was frightened when she tripped. She’s not very coordinated, but I still love her a whole bunch. I had not flown before (and wasn’t very good at it). I did not know that I could fly so far. I didn’t mean to get lost, but everything looks so unfamiliar to me. I’m very afraid out here on my own. I really want to get back home, as I miss my Mommy very much and I’m sad that I’m away from her. She loves me a whole lot and takes really good care of me. I know she must be really sad too. I even miss my stupid cat, Betty. I’m a parrot, but people call me a Nanday Conure. I’m just a baby, as I’m only 14 months old. My Mommy says I’m a really good boy. I’m mostly green with a black face, black beak and white circles around my eyes. I’m about 12 inches long and have long tail and flight feathers that are mostly blue and green with some black. My wing span is 11 inches. My upper chest is a bluish-green, and my lower chest area is a pale green. My legs have bright reddish-orange feathers and my feet are flesh colored with black nails. My Mommy says I’m very cute and handsome. I haven’t learned to talk yet but when I hear my Mommy get up in the morning, I try my best to make a kissing sound as I think she likes that more than coffee. I do have a very loud squawk(http://www.xeno-canto.org/52762) and squawk especially loud when I get tired at night and my Mommy asks me if I want to go “night-night.” I’ve not been around a lot of strangers, so I may be scared, but I’m still hoping you will help me. I’m very afraid of loud noises and unfamiliar sounds, so I want to get back to my Mommy. She always makes me feel better and safe and secure. If you see me or if you know someone who has seen me or has taken me in to help me, would you please contact my Mommy? Thank you for trying to help me find my way back home. Your Friend, Jack         Jack – my beloved Nanday Conure – was lost near Spotswood Furnace Road and Secca Drive in Fredericksburg, Virginia around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014. “Jack” is an indoor bird and flew off when spooked while on my shoulder when I was taking out the trash and tripped. His wings had been clipped, but apparently not recently enough. He spent Friday night and until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the top of a 50-foot tree on the outskirts of the woods behind 15204 Spotswood Furnace Road. He flew into the woods across the street near the top of the tree in front of a home on Spotswood Furnace Road. After an hour, he flew into the woods behind this home, which also border Secca Drive. He stayed in this tree from 7:00 p.m. on Saturday until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. At 4:00 p.m., he flew into the woods in front of the home at 15212 Spotswood Furnace Road where he stayed Sunday night and was heard in these same woods Monday morning. He does not sound like other birds, as he squawks very loudly, like a scream. Jack is approximately 13 inches long and is mostly green in color. He has a black face, black beak, black trailing flight feathers on his wings, and a long black tail which is blue at the end. His upper chest is bluish-green and his lower chest area is a paler green. The feathers covering Jack’s thighs are red. Jack is banded, and I will be happy to provide complete band information to identify him If you see him, please call (703) 232-6382 as he is too frightened of other people for you to catch him (plus, he’s spending time in trees too tall to climb). Thanks so much for your help in finding him, or providing assistance on his exact whereabouts. My heart is just breaking with worry about him, as I love him so very, very, very much
