We found her 18 hours after she took off, in the wee hours of the morning. I figured she couldn’t have gone very far because she really wasn’t a strong flier. She was just clipped on September 28, but hadn’t finished molting, and had 2 new flight feathers grow in after.

We decided to go looking for her before sunrise, and went  block by block in the direction where she’d flown. We called her name and played a recording of one of her many chat sessions. Four streets away, we called her name and she answered, again and again! So happy! She was on a fence in someone’s backyard, and happily stepped up when I asked her to. The whole thing is still surreal to me.

May respond to her name.
