Leoni Township is looking for the owner of a gray and white cockatiel after the bird was found at a recent Michigan Center football game.

The cockatiel flew to the field and landed on the shoulder of a Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety officer, then stayed there for the duration of the game, said Leoni Township Supervisor Todd Brittain.

The officer took the bird home and later turned it over to Leoni Township, so its owners could be found, Brittain said.

It has been busy befriending township employees ever since, he said.

“He’s the most lovable bird,” Brittain said. “He gets on your shoulder and stays right next to you.”

Anyone with information about the bird, or who suspects they may have lost it, should call the Leoni Township Hall at 764-4694, ext. 114.

The bird’s wings have since been clipped so it cannot fly off again, he said. Brittain was unsure exactly when the bird was found.

“I don’t mind if he stays here at the township forever because he’s so friendly, but I’d like to find the true owners of the bird,” Brittain said. “If I could find the owner, we’d be happy.”
