Five pet birds were rescued by the Scottish SPCA

The owners of five pets birds thought to have escaped through open windows during the heat wave are being sought.

The Scottish SPCA said it had rescued two budgies, a canary, a parakeet and an exotic sun conure in Aberdeenshire.

They are being cared for at the charity’s centre at Drumoak.

Manager, Graeme Innes said: “All of these birds are friendly and well cared for. It’s likely they have escaped through windows or doors that have been left open due to the warm weather.”

He added: “We are pretty confident they all have owners who are missing them.”

Anyone who recognises their lost bird can call the Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
