This bird appeared on a ranch in rural Chowchilla on 7/27/11. He was perched in a tree and remained there, coming down to sit atop a cage and eat seed, fruit, and vegetables but too skittish to be caught to check for a microchip or other identifying marks. We obtained a picture from the finders today. He now appears to have moved on, but I thought the sighting was worthwhile to post for anyone who is looking for a bird like this in our area. He may return. We are hopeful that when he does that we will be able to coax him into our possession. We have a microchip scanner to check him and we also have reputable rescue and adoptive homes for him through which the search for his guardian could continue. Please feel free to contact us if you believe this is your bird. Chowchilla is located south of Merced, CA, and approximately 45 minutes north of Fresno along the 99 Freeway and the Highway 152.
