Sighted cockatoo reported to Mickaboo:
Richmond, CA. There’s a jogging trail along the water. When I look at maps, there’s a crossover called Bayview Ave. Along there, Route 580 goes right up against the water’s edge. Right at the beginning of that part of the route is where I saw him. Right at the beginning of where there’s just a little bit of grass and the water’s edge is right alongside the highway. That’s heading in the direction facing San Francisco. I couldn’t see the trail from there. The trail comes into view soon after, heading towards San Francisco.

I had gotten on Route 580 at Harbour Way, Pt. Richmond, heading towards San Francisco. He landed in a patch of green grass that looked like it might not have solid ground, because it was so close to the water. Soon after that spot, the la
nd drops away, when you’re driving along. My knowledge of the route is so-so. I don’t use it on a daily basis, but I’ve been along that road plenty of times. I hope I got the location correct.

When I look at Google maps, I see there’s a similar area, where Central Ave. crosses under Route 580. To find Central Ave, I see El Cerrito Plaza Bart f
urther inland. It’s possible I saw the bird there, but I don’t think I had traveled that far down the road when I spotted him. He’s definitely using seagulls for cover, and seems approachable. Shelby
