Selby & Tadcaster
39 birds taken from Carlton couple’s aviary
10:12am Thursday 30th June 2011

THIEVES have stolen birds worth £300 after breaking into an aviary in a village near Selby.

Police said the raiders broke into a shed in Town End Avenue in Carlton, then used wire cutters to get in to the adjoining bird house.

PC Stuart Henderson, of Selby police, said: “The owner and his wife are extremely angry and upset that their birds have gone. These birds often do not survive if they are not kept in the correct environment and cared for properly. The birds are very distinctive, due to their bright colours.”

The 39 stolen birds included yellow canaries, black and yellow canaries, a diamond dove and 16 zebra finches.
