Mel is an older female blue-headed Pionus. She flew out the front door at 0910 eastern this morning from our home on Montevideo Court in Jessup, MD. She went across the street and landed in a tree. She obviously “can” fly but her she doesn’t have much endurance. Mel is typically a quiet bird. She sits in a hunched or lowered position most of the time. She will fly to a shoulder and perch there, but during her hormonal season (which is now), she may bite unexpectedly. She does a flock call mostly in the mornings. She can say “good morning” and “want scritches” but she typically chooses not to talk. Mel loves to eat with her humans. She will usually step up, but, again, she is being hormonal at this time.
