Loren is a female yellow-head parrot. We’ve had her since 1989. She’s mostly bright green with a little yellow section at the front of her head, above her beak. Her beak is tan and black, very sharp. She bites if she’s scared so be careful! She has some red in her wings and tail. She’s about 7 inches tall, maybe, from her claws up to her head. And she has a silver bracelet on her left claw (that’s her left, not yours), which is a registration number from the Fish and Wildlife Service from when we imported her into the country in 1999. She has a really long nail in the back of one of her claws which is so long it’s curled all the way around (she wouldn’t let us clip it). She speaks Spanish, saying things like, “Hola!” She sings “Mi Pollera” (which sounds like “poyera”). She laughs hysterically and screams hysterically. She mumbles to herself when no one is paying attention to her, saying things like “ay que bella esa lora.” Which means, “oh what a beautiful bird.” And she whistles, like a cat-call whistle. But she also just whistles regularly.
