Hi Donna,
Sockey was found about .5 km away from our house.  He stayed in the forest behind our house for 24 hours – was seen and heard by neighbours, but wouldn’t come down.  Finally, my sister in law called and said he was in a tree in her back yard. (Her back yard backs on to the same forest ours does… I can see the back of her house in the winter from our back deck).  I raced around to her house and was able to coax Sockey down the tree with his favourite food.  He must have been hungry and thirsty.  He came right down and hopped onto my shoulder – and sat there for the drive back home!  He seemed very relieved and happy to be back!! 🙂
A close call with a happy ending!  🙂
Thanks for letting us post on your site,
Warm regards,
Jan

Sockey is a male Goffins Cockatoo. He is not used to being outside or flying around free. He was last seen in the woods behind our house – it’s very ‘leafy’ up there, but we can hear him scream once in awhile. He has not left the area – is used to hearing “come here, Sockey”, “go to bed”, “treat”. He has some words, such as ” WHAAAAAAT???”, ” I love you!”, “Hi and Hello”, “come here”. Right now, when we call for him, his response is just a scream or squawk. It is not one of our usual local bird sounds, so it is quite loud and distinguishable for this area.

Sockey is DNA banded – which is a little silver band around his ankle. (Owner will supply complete band information).
