Owner in a flap over lost parrotPet lover has asked the UAE public to look out for ‘Scottish’ bird named Wallace
A parrot who speaks with a Scottish accent and even sings ‘Flower of Scotland’ has gone missing from his home in Dubai.

Runaway Wallace, an African Grey, has been mimicking its owner Ron Baxter since he bought him seven years ago.

But on Friday, chatterbox Wallace got caught by a gust of wind and took off from his home in Al Barsha. Worried Ron, originally from Largs in Ayrshire, Scotland, is very concerned because, he said, Wallace is no ‘Braveheart’. He added: “He gets very nervous when he’s unsure of his environment and he cries. It’s quite a distinctive noise.

“He’s on a special diet and I don’t know what he’ll be eating in the wild. I’m also worried someone has found him and kept him.” Talented Wallace, who is named after Scottish hero Sir William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson in the Hollywood movie ‘Braveheart’, has a massive repertoire of songs and vocabulary.

Ron said: “He sings Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra songs. He whistles for a taxi and says all sorts of things. He’ll say ‘good morning’, ‘Hello Wallace’, ‘Hello Ron’.

“He even takes words from sentences and makes up his own sentences. He’s very talkative and quite a character. My house has never been so quiet.” Wallace, who is microchipped, can also greet people in Arabic, Spanish, French and Italian.

It’s not the first time he’s flown off. Ron said: “Last time I caught him. But this time it’s nearly a week.” Worried Ron has handed out posters around Barsha and in shops. He said: “There are quite a few small parks and I’ve spoken to people there and told them I’ll give them a reward if they find him.”

Anyone who spots Wallace is asked to call Ron on 050 554 8986.
