A DESPERATE appeal has been made to try to trace a stolen pet parrot.

Morpeth vet John Prescott and his family bought Robinson, a blue and gold macaw, 21 years ago when the bird was just a year old as his previous owner could no longer care for him.

Since then Robinson has established himself as a favourite family pet, ruling the roost at the Prescotts’ Longhorsley farmstead.

But the beloved bird was cruelly snatched from his aviary when thieves broke into the premises last Wednesday, and there has been no sign of him since.

“We have quite a few birds, but Robinson was the only real pet and was the only one we had in the house,” said Mr Prescott.

“He is a family pet, like a dog, except even more so because we have had him for so long. He has been in the family for more than 20 years.

“My children are married and left home now, but they always see him when they come back.

“He walks around the house quite happily, pushing the dogs out of the way when he wants to go somewhere. He talks a bit, but that is neither here nor there, and he has his likes and dislikes. These birds do get attached to certain people and he would certainly be stressed by being put in a coat and run away with by a stranger.”

The theft took place between 12.15pm and 12.30pm on Wednesday, October 19.
