A BELOVED pet parrot has gone missing and is believed stolen after raiders ransacked a family home in broad daylight.

Kiran Nenshi was devastated to find her Ermin Street home broken into and her African grey parrot missing when she returned from a brief shopping trip at around 1.45pm on Tuesday.

Drawers had been tipped onto the floor, mattresses turned upside down and the thieves even rummaged through the fridge and freezer, before making off with jewellery including Rolex watches and gold.

The 39-year-old broke down in tears when she realised the exotic bird, named Chelsea, was no longer in her cage and since then her husband Ray, 40, their family and friends have been out searching at all hours.

“We are all devastated – we’ve lost everything,” said the mum-of-two.

“When I got back from Asda and opened the front door I saw the drawers were all open. I just stopped because I knew something was wrong.

“It was only when I went inside I realised Chelsea was not making any noise so I went to check – the cage door had been broken open and she was gone.

“We think they might have stolen her or she flew off but we just want her back.

I’ve had her for 13 years, since she was a baby. She’s amazing – she mimics people and can speak different languages.

“But she is scared of strangers and probably made a loud noise when they broke in.”

It’s not the first time Kiran has been the victim of burglars as in January she chased after an intruder who broke into her home.

That time, though, they left empty-handed.

She said she now has trouble sleeping.

“I have not slept – I don’t feel safe in my home now that it has happened twice,” she said.

Detectives have appealed for information about the incident and say they believe the bird, which can cost up to £1,000, has been stolen.

Detective Constable Mark Harris said: “The incident took place at some point between 11.30am and 1.45pm in Ermin Street, Blunsdon, and the family pet, an African grey parrot, was stolen.

“We are appealing for information and anyone who may have been in Ermin Street between those times and saw anyone who appeared out of place to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information should contact DC Harris on 101 or Crimestoppers, where information can be left anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

If anyone spots an African grey parrot, with a bald patch around its neck, they are asked to call Kiran on 07973 482718.
