Thieves steal £3,500 of rare birds
2:32pm Tuesday 15th March 2011

POLICE are hunting thieves who stole £3,500 of rare ducks and geese in raids on a North Yorkshire farm.
The thieves struck at a farm at Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, on two raids.
The first theft was between 2pm on Sunday, March 6 and 2pm Monday, March 7 when they took 27 birds.
They returned to steal another 12 birds between 7pm on Saturday 12 March and 7.30am Sunday 13 March.
The stolen birds include Buffle-head ducks, Smew ducks, Hooded Merganser, Red-breast geese and Scaup.
PC Jon Grainge, of Thirsk Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I believe that whoever carried out these thefts has knowledge of wildfowl.
“They targeted the more expensive breeds and appears to know how to handle the birds.
“I ask that anyone who has any information about the people who stole the fowl or where the birds are now contacts me as soon as possible, as I need to speak to them.”
If you can assist with this enquiry contact PC Jon Grainge, at Thirsk Police Station, on 0845-6060-247 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
