We are lucky enough to have him at home, thanks to a number of wonderful people doing the right thing. A few days ago, I remember reading some of the reunited stories, and I would like to give others hope that it might be them and their bird. Our bird was found more than 9 miles away; someone found him, immediately took him to a shelter, and another angel put that photo together with his picture on our vet’s Facebook page. The people at the clinic called, saying that this guy certainly looked like Thomas, and indeed, he was! It was a joyous reunion that I really didn’t believe would happen. His doctor was amazed at his condition, no broken bones or even broken feathers, but he lost a significant amount of weight. However, he is eating and drinking very well, is already up several grams, and seems to be quite secure in believing that HE REALLY IS HOME! Happy hearts all around!

REWARD! Please help us!! Please contact “Toms Mom” at 612-xxx-xxxx. If for some reason, we are not answering that number, PLEASE leave a voice message.  THOMAS was lost Saturday August 16, 2014, about 4:00PM from the Hiawatha neighborhood of Minneapolis, MN. He was last seen in treetops of the 4000 block alley between 41st and 42nd Avenues South; has not been seen or heard since Sunday August 17th, about 8:00AM. He answered our calls “Thomas”, “Pretty Bird” and whistling, but would not come down the trees at all, even though he knew that we were below. We have his open cage in our back yard. We recorded some whistles and calls that he responds to, and have been using them in the area several times a day, without a response. He is a heavy pied cockatiel, with pale yellow/light gray chest feathers (even more yellow than in the photo). He has a yellow head with some gray feathers in his crest and around his nares. He has orange cheek patches, has a gray beak, a back that is mostly gray, with some white feathers. He has ONE LONG YELLOW TAIL FEATHER/all other tail feathers are gray. He is fully flighted, and the 2 longest wing feathers on his right side are yellow; other wing feathers are mostly gray, with a few that are mottled gray/yellow. He is a big whistler, and says “pretty bird” and “mama”; he will answer to whistling and “Thomas” or “Pretty Bird” calls. He loves chips, cereal, soft pizza crust or crackers when he can get them, loves spray millet, cooked pasta and rice, Ezekiel cereal, Trader Joe’s Animal Crackers, Goldenfeast Australian Blend, Zupreem natural pellets (smallest size), plain canary seeds, fresh chard, kale, romaine, broccoli, breads, and is used to and really likes COLD bottled water that contains apple cider vinegar (1/2 teaspoon per cup). He is used to drinking from an open cup, is not used to water bottles. He weighed his usual 84 grams on the day he was lost. He does know and responds to “step up” and “step down” and he will step onto a perch/dowel if offered with gentle assurances that it’s “OK.”
