Email to 911PA:

“Buddy was actually found by a tourist, four days after he escaped, on the sidewalk in front of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum about a mile and a half away from where he escaped. The person who found him called the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, whom I had emailed only an hour earlier with contact info and photos! In addition to hours of walking at dawn and dusk through the neighborhood where he escaped, we also had flyers up at several vet offices, the Washington Animal Rescue League, and all around the neighborhood and local businesses where he escaped — as well as internet postings on bird sites like yours and Facebook.

Not surprisingly, Buddy was not in great shape after four days in the wild during a heat wave. Right now he is at Stahl Exotic Animal Veterinary Services getting ‘sub-Q’ fluids, tube feeding, etc. His prognosis is guarded, but fair. We are praying our little feathered family member makes a full recovery!

Thanks for your site and best wishes to all whose loved ones are still missing.

=====

On Wednesday, July 3, Buddy escaped from a home on the 600 block of South Carolina Avenue, SE, Washington DC – the Capitol Hill neighborhood. His actual home is in NW DC near Chevy Chase Circle, so we don’t know if he might be trying to find his way back. He is a grey, or “pearl”, cockatiel. He is about the size of a robin, but with a longer tail and a crest. He has a light gray face and crest, with dark gray wings with white edges.

Buddy’s person is my son Nate and if you call “Nate!”, Buddy will usually chirp loudly back. Buddy will also echo me when I whistle for our dog with a typical wee-ohh-wheet whistle.

If you see him please call 202-xxx-xxxx or email. Buddy is much loved and much missed.”
