As Reported on Kake.com (http://www.kake.com/home/headlines/Thieves_Break_In_To_Pet_Store_Steal_Bird_135042583.html):

UPDATE: Tuesday, December 6, 2011

A bird taken during a burglary in southeast Wichita early Monday morning, has been returned.

Nancy Prester, Birds of Paradise owner, said 11-year-old Cobber, and his missing cage, was returned Tuesday morning. The Goffin Cockatoo appears to be in good condition.

“He is very tired and spent a lot of time sleeping today,” Prester said.

Prester said an anonymous tip led to the bird’s safe return. No other information was provided.

Thieves broke into the business using a cutting tool, Prester said. Police would not comment on the method of entry, but said the incident appears to be related to a rash of recent crimes.

Prester said there is some good to report following the crime.

“A customer donated a new surveillance system with all the bells and whistles,” Prester said.

Early this morning Cobber, an 11 year old goffin cockatoo, was stolen from Birds of Paradise at Wallseed, a bird breeder on South Woodlawn. He’s a sweet baby, handfed and raised by the owner of the store. If anyone notices someone trying to sell a goffin cockatoo with rough, tattered looking feathers please respond here or to the store. He talks very clearly and his favorite thing to say is “What are ya doin?” The people at this store are really wonderful and they really care about their birds. Everyone that shops there knows Cobber and misses him terribly. Please help us bring him home!
