Bird stolen from local pet store
By Theresa Freed on March 5, 2012

Lawrence police and a local pet shop need your help finding a stolen bird. A parrot was taken from Pet World, and the owners are anxious to get her back.

The store, located at 23rd and Louisiana, gets a lot of traffic. On February 6, it was especially busy. A tour group came through to check out the animals. But apparently someone did more than just admire the birds.

Sherry Emerson says “Perfect Lorikeet” was taken during the tour. The one year-old bird hasn’t been seen or heard form since. A report was filed with the Lawrence police, but so far there don’t appear to be any leads.

Emerson says shortly after the incident, Pet World posted a picture to its Facebook page, hoping to et some help. She says she wants the bird back because anyone who would steal an animal probably isn’t taking very good care of her.
