“Hiawatha” flew off outside, he was barely visible at the very top of a large tree and we could not reach him. On Sunday morning we tried again to coax him down and hoped he would fly back to his cage, but instead we stopped hearing him by 10am. His cage is outside, we have alerted neighbors, called police, animal control, local shelters, and posted to Craigslist and Facebook.
This was my boyfriend’s bird for the past ten years (and mine since we moved in together a year ago). So, unfortunately the photos we have are old. He is banded, but my boyfriend cannot locate the certificate with the info on it. I even tried calling the store he was bought at but their records don’t go back far enough.
Hiawatha is missing a tow on one claw – it was bitten off by a Blue and Gold Macaw and never grew back. He whistles sharp pitched sounds, a “marching tune”, speaks in male, female and children’s voices. He barks like a small dog, and says “Joey” (my son’s name) and “Dolly” (my dog’s name) along with any number of other words and phrases he strings together.
He beeps like an old two-way cell phone and makes the “backing up” beep of a large truck (my bf drives a box truck).
We are still holding on to hope that we might get him back. He is part of our family and we miss him.
Thank you for your help!
